Erklärung gegen G4-Treffen in Potsdam


Derzeit tagen die Handelsminister der G4-Staaten (Europäische Union, USA, Brasilien und Indien) in Potsdam, um ein endgültiges Scheitern der Welthandelsgespräche zu verhindern. Ziel des von der Öffentlichkeit abgeschirmten informellen Treffens ist es, einen für die vier Großmächte annehmbaren Kompromiss für die "Doha-Runde" zur weiteren Liberalisierung des Welthandels auszuloten - ohne Beteiligung der vielen kleinen Entwicklungsländer.

"Der G4-Prozess ist undemokratisch, kein WTO-Deal in Potsdam!" lautet der Titel einer Erklärung, die mehr als 70 Organisationen und Gruppen der internationalen Zivilgesellschaft gemeinsam verfasst haben. Die Unterzeichner - darunter auch das globalisierungskritische Netzwerk Attac - kritisieren das Treffen als intransparent und undemokratisch und fordern daher seinen sofortigen Stopp.

Die Handelsminister der G4-Staaten (Europäische Union, USA, Brasilien und Indien) treffen sich diese Woche in Potsdam und versuchen, eine für sie annehmbare Handelsvereinbarung zusammenzustricken.

Die Geschichte der WTO lässt vermuten, dass sie im Falle des Erfolgs versuchen werden, diese Vereinbarung als vollendete Tatsache hinzustellen, die von den anderen Staaten akzeptiert werden muss, wenn das multilaterale Handelssystem überleben soll. In der Praxis würde das bedeuten, dass viele der kleineren Entwicklungsländer (d.h. die Mehrheit der WTO-Mitglieder), die von diesen Verhandlungen ausgeschlossen sind, gezwungen wären, eine Vereinbarung zu akzeptieren, die sich zerstörerisch auf ihre Volkswirtschaft und die Umwelt auswirken und die Demokratie untergraben würde. Vor allem wäre die Lebensgrundlage von Millionen von Bauern weltweit bedroht.

Solch ein Prozess wäre völlig intransparent und undemokratisch. Wir fordern den sofortigen Stopp des G4-Treffens und eine offene und transparente Untersuchung der Auswirkungen von WTO-Vereinbarungen auf die Lebensgrundlagen der Menschen und die Umwelt.
